![]() ![]() Unlike a conventional vehicle with modes P R N D 2 1 (park, reverse, neutral, drive, 2nd gear, 1st gear) the Prius has a power button, a park button, and a selector for modes R N D and B (reverse, neutral, drive, and engine-Braking). The Prius uses an electronic transmission mode selector, similar to a gear shift on a conventional car. Use "pulse and glide" driving technique for maximum efficiency. When possible, route planning allows both of these to be achieved, often with little or no change in elapsed time.Ībove all, it's important to understand that a casual Prius driver needs to understand NONE of the tricks described below. It will arrive, hopefully, mon Nov 22nd.Efficient Prius driving entails avoiding inefficient modes, like using "B" or running the internal combustion engine (ICE) or excessive braking and speed, and maximizing efficient modes such as using electric vehicle (EV) modes. I have been without a car for 7 days as balise had to order the part last Friday Nov. The car has 25,000 miles on it and the repair this time will cost about $1100. I wish to report this so it is on record in the event there is a recall. The car has no serious recalls on it and I note that though 2005, 2007-2010 have been recalled the 2006 has not. After 2-3 days on their computer, they located it in the instrument cluster in the odometer. They located another draw on battery but could not repair it and sent it to balise in warwick ri. Nov 15, -2010-, battery died again and the car was towed to my local station. Dec 2008 the battery died and my local garage traced it to the alarm- they disconnected the module. My car has experienced two electrical problems within the past 2 years. I own several Toyotas and will buy again. I am a loyal Toyota customer, there is no rancor or animosity. The pleasantries don't however account for the cost of service, cost or replacement and ancillary considerations as being stranded with a dead battery is fraught with unsettling consequences. I had pleasant treatment at the dealership and a report to the corporate Toyota case manager. The Toyota survey confirms suspicion advanced in my opinions about charging failure since questions include distance and time driven and starts and stops. Unnecessary cost is required in my opinion to service at $55 and or buy new clamps and cables that are corroded. Danger in my view arises from being stranded or fire. The internet suspects the system is overcharging. The issue of a failure seems suspected by Toyota as the date I reported the second alleged failure, Toyota sends me a questionnaire asking about driving distances and times noting the battery failure. My sister vehicle with an older battery were both garaged in the California moderate climate and has no corrosion. The dealer states corrosion is common and costs around $55 to service and or replacing positive battery terminal clamps and connecting cables as needed. The fire is stated to have derived in the battery location from a claimed defective battery. The internet notes risks of being stranded with dead batteries and in at least one case belief or opinion that a house fire starting in the garage caused around $300,000 of damage. The internet confirms the opinion of a seemingly off gassing problem causing corrosion especially on the positive terminal as is my experience. A new replacement battery then displayed notable corrosion starting around four months. The new battery failed within three years. In my opinion there is an issue with the battery and or charging system. 00 on the correct test equipment to confirm the electrical problem of dead batteries was from the fact that I parked my car in my garage with the windows open and doors unlocked. I have gone to the Toyota dealership 4 times spent over 300. In fact my wife had asked the service manager at parks Toyota in deland florida this exact question and he david carey saidy ou do not have to close windows or lock your doors. Oo dollars on two batteries because nowhere in their 608 page Toyota Camry manual does it tell you you have to close the windows and lock the doors or the battery will go dead. When I asked her to do something about my spending over 300. Om Toyota customer care and she said Toyota is getting alot of compaints about dead batteries from customers. Yesterday I spoke with julie a customer care mananger fr. The new batteries are 770 cca amps vs my oriinal battery which was only 563 ccawhich they do not make any more.
